Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy®

If you crave deep, invigorating tissue work, we suggest trying Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy®. Inspired by Eastern massage techniques and adapted from ancient forms of barefoot massage, Ashiatsu is a highly effective treatment for those suffering from chronic neck and back pain. It combines elements of Thai Massage, Japanese Shiatsu, and India's Keralite massage.

"The deepest, most luxurious form of barefoot massage on the planet.Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy (AOBT) provides the deepest pressure with minimal effort by the therapist. Utilizing parallel bars on the ceiling for balance and leverage, the therapist uses her body weight to the thick layers of the muscles of the back. This technique is deeply relaxing like a traditional swedish massage. The massage therapist’s body weight is used to press, sweep, swirl and relax the muscles. Correct application will provide deep relaxation and stimulate the lymphatic system of the body. Perfect for the person who may suffer from chronic back pain, scoliosis, or bulging herniated disc problems.

Thai Yoga Bodywork

Done on a mat and fully clothed, Thai Yoga Bodywork is quickly becoming a popular form of physical therapy and massage. Combining the stretching of yoga with the deep tissue work of massage, Thai Yoga reduces painful muscle tension, stiffness and sourness more effectively than traditional massage techniques, which is why so many of our patients have come to prefer it. Originating in Thailand, Thai Yoga Bodyworks shares many of the same benefits as yoga: increased flexibility, range of motion, alignment, improved posture and breathing techniques.

Traditional Massage Therapy

Massage is now understood to be more than a mode of relaxation. It can be a powerful tool for helping to take care of and heal our bodies from injury, stress, muscle pain and even enhance our mental wellbeing. Maine bodyworks therapists specialize in deep tissue work that goes beyond relaxation. We practice traditional Swedish massage for deep tissue work with an emphasis on increasing circulation and mindfulness to fatigued muscles and joints.

Body Exfoliation

Most people are unaware of the role skin plays in our overall health. Most toxins are released through our skin, and our constant need to shed dead skin cells and make way for new cells is an important function of our body’s detoxification requirements. Removing these dead cells through exfoliation increases circulation and oxygen to living cells for a healthier, more vibrant skin while increasing your body’s natural detoxification functions. Clients are scrubbed using a homemade mix of organic sugar, organic oatmeal and jojoba oil and botanicals. Body exfoliation then will be followed by a relaxing massage using emollient lotion for a feeling of wellbeing that will last for days!

Body Wrap

Clay is an ancient form of detoxification that goes back thousands of years. Because of clay’s unique chemistry, it acts like a sponge – removing toxins, impurities and dirt from the skin. A 15 minute head, face and foot massage is done while client relaxes and waits for the clay to work its magic. We will finish up with a relaxing massage to replenish and rehydrate the skin.

Hot Stone Massage

  • Uses warm/hot and smooth river stone to massage tired and sore muscles
  • The combination of deep heat and massage can melt away the tension and stress in your muscles
