Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle technique designed to support the movement of lymphatic fluid and reduce post-operative swelling. It is commonly used as an adjunctive service during surgical recovery and in cases where lymphatic congestion is present.
MLD uses light, rhythmic movements applied to the skin to encourage lymphatic flow towards functioning lymph nodes. This approach is non-invasive and does not involve deep pressure, incisional drainage or forceful techniques.
Brianna was trained in the Vodder technique through Klose Training and is a Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist (CMLDT). She has also completed advanced training in post-operative techniques through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS).
Benefits of post-operative lymphatic drainage:
- Reduces edema/ swelling: Helps move trapped fluid out of tissues
- Minimizes fibrosis: Reduces hard, lumpy tissue formation under the skin
- Speeds healing: Promotes circulation, reduces bruising and provides pain relief
- Improves results: Smooths skin texture and defines surgical contours
