Massage & Bodywork

Maine Bodyworks offers a variety of massage techniques to meet the personal needs of our clients. Your therapist will work with you to determine which technique is best for you, based on how you may be feeling that day, and your health, energy level or personal preference. Developing a relationship with each client is one of the most important parts of our practice. Working together, we can help you to create a treatment plan and goals for your health and wellness.

Integrative Bodywork

While we offer table massage with traditional Swedish and Deep Tissue work, we enhance this work with exceptional skill and a deep focus on your comfort and well-being. A powerful healing experience that offers your body an opportunity to let go of stress, injury, muscle pain, and fatigued muscles and joints, with an emphasis on increasing circulation, flexibility, and a delightful sense of relaxation. Traditional massage amplified with hot stones and hot towels will positively melt away the tension and stress in your muscles.

Ashiatsu

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is a unique and luxurious form of deep-tissue massage where the therapist uses her feet, heels, instep, and toes to apply deep, broad, and consistent pressure. The therapist stands on the massage table and uses overhead bars for balance and control.
Most of the treatment is performed with the client face down. The session begins with a flowing sequence through the shoulders, back, glutes, hamstrings, and calves, creating a beautiful, connected movement that allows for deep pressure without the poking or pinpoint pressure often associated with fingers or elbows.
The therapist can easily adjust the pressure—from deep and therapeutic to lighter and more relaxing—using the bars to maintain balance and control throughout the treatment. This makes Ashiatsu an excellent choice for those who enjoy deep pressure, have chronically tight muscles, or carry tension in the shoulders, hips, and legs.
When you turn onto your back, the treatment becomes primarily hands-on, with some Ashiatsu techniques incorporated as appropriate. There is no stepping on the abdomen or stomach area.
Before your session, your therapist will discuss your health history and make sure Ashiatsu is appropriate and that there are no contraindications to receiving the technique.

Once you experience it, you may wonder how you ever lived without it!

Back, Neck and Shoulder Tension Release

Experience a transformative 60-minute session designed to enhance neck mobility and melt away tension through targeted fascia work. This focused treatment is dedicated entirely to the upper body.
The session begins with the client face down, addressing the upper and lower back, shoulder blades, and the back of the arms to release deep-seated tension and restore ease of movement. Once the client turns face up, the therapist transitions to detailed work on the face and scalp, with special attention to the occipital ridge to relieve neck tightness. The session concludes with nurturing work on the shoulders, chest, and arms, leaving the upper body feeling open, balanced, and refreshed.
To further support relaxation and circulation, the therapist may incorporate hot towels, hot stones, and/or gliding cups to gently lift the tissue and encourage healthy blood flow throughout the muscles.

Head, Neck & Face Massage

Table Thai Massage

Table Thai Massage combines the stretching components of yoga with the deep tissue work of massage. Performed on a massage table with loose comfortable clothing, this technique shares many of the same benefits of yoga: increased flexibility, improved range of motion, correct posture and alignment, and a greater capacity for breathing. Reduces painful muscle tension, inflexibility and releases tired achy joints effectively and is often a more preferred technique to traditional massage.
